About Our Panelists

Karen Alonso is Vice President of Marketing at United Way of Southern Nevada. She is an accomplished marketing professional with a strong passion for mission-driven work. Karen brings extensive expertise in developing and implementing innovative marketing strategies that drive brand growth and generate meaningful impact.

Karen has a proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing campaigns, elevating brand visibility, and cultivating meaningful connections with diverse audiences.

She leads a talented team of dedicated marketing professionals, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages creativity, innovation, and excellence. Her strategic vision and leadership enable the organization to effectively communicate its mission, engage stakeholders, and inspire action.

Karen earned her bachelor’s degrees in both Marketing & Business Management from Montclair State University. She is currently serving as Immediate Past President of the American Marketing Association, Las Vegas Chapter and President-Elect for the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Las Vegas Chapter. Karen also serves on the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance Branding Council and the UNLV Marketing & International Business Community Advisory Board.

Leslie T. Snadowsky, MS APR, is the Programming and Communications Coordinator at Congregation Ner Tamid, the largest Reform Jewish Synagogue in Nevada. The Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) Las Vegas Chapter named Snadowsky the “2022 PR Practitioner of the Year” and awarded her the “2023 PR Practitioner of the Year” Award of Excellence for her work at the local Henderson, NV, nonprofit. To date, the PRSA has also honored Snadowsky with 10 Pinnacle Awards and 14 additional awards for her PR campaigns with budgets above and below $10K, events, articles, media outreach, press releases, bulletins and annual reports, social media, videos, webcasts, and podcasts. 

Snadowsky earned her Master’s Degree in Journalism from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University in New York City. As a print and on-air TV reporter, she has written for media outlets including The Associated Press, Bloomberg, Reuters, and The New York Post, and appeared live on CNN Headline News’ “Nancy Grace” and FOX News’ “FOX & Friends” as an investigative reporter. Snadowsky is also an Adjunct Instructor at UNLV’s Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies, and her first TV job was at the Las Vegas NBC news affiliate News3 KSNV-TV.

Emily Smith is an accomplished Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) with over 20
years of proven success in transforming organizations and driving sustainable growth.
Her expertise spans capacity building, change management, complex business
operations, team development, fundraising, marketing, public relations, and government
relations. A recognized leader in her field, Smith brings specialized expertise in
supporting children and individuals with low-incidence disabilities, particularly those who
are blind, visually impaired, deaf, or hard of hearing, positioning her as a vital advocate
for inclusive, impactful services.


Smith launched her career as Development Director for Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada
(GSSNV), where her passion and strategic vision quickly advanced her to the roles of
Chief Marketing & Development Officer and, ultimately, Chief Operating Officer. Her
leadership was instrumental in elevating the organization’s visibility and impact across
Nevada. Notably, Smith was responsible for the creation of GSSNV’s signature event,
Dessert Before Dinner, which has since become a staple in the organization’s
fundraising efforts. Following her success with GSSNV, Smith became the first full-time
CEO of the Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation (NBCF), where she built the
organization from the ground up, culminating in the launch of Nevada’s first preschool
for blind and visually impaired children—a milestone achievement that established
critical early childhood resources in the community.
